That is normal, there is no way to display two spaces in HTML without using  , if not use nbsp than you will press space and after one space nothing will change in editor.

There is no option to disable it, if you have some weird output please try to test it on demo and post screenshot here.

Does it happen on demo?

I have some day off @ my office every saturday and sunday...
btw, I've tried it with firefox 4.0 and opera 11.01 and they shows the same behaviour...
and i also tried with the elrte demo page, and it does did the same...
the editor converts double space to nbsp;

well, for now i've tried to convince my friend that it was a normal thing on a website...
