Is there an eta on when this may come? Is there a work around?

It would be very useful.. It just needs a pull down or radio button to choose the type of link.. mailto:, http:// or other that sets what it will accept or even set the value before it. A seperate field of email links in the link form would work too but could be risky if they fill in both the regular and email link fields.

Even something to stop it inserting the http:// when mailto: is typed into the in to the box would work as a temporary solution.

Currently we are focused on elFinder 2 release, so elRTE is a little bit abandoned

When you say "elRTE is a little bit abandoned". I take it that you plan to come back to it at some point? It's a very very good editor. I've just switched to it from Xinha which has also been abandoned. It would be shame if it also stopped being updated.

We found that elRTE internal design is very limited and it behave very different in different browsers of different versions - this makes a headache updating it every time a new version of browser is released. The same was about elFinder, and elFinder is much more popular product and there are less analoges that's why elFinder is major priority.

We also have elRTE 2 alpha version - but it's not usable right now. I'm not sure that new versions of elRTE will be released soon, but it will someday.
